Heli TUHKANEN - FINLAND
MONTE DEI FIORI PRIZE / PRIX MONTE DEI FIORI

Heli TUHKANEN is an artist from Finland. She graduated from The Free Art School, Helsinki, and further trained in the Visual arts at the Institute of Industrial Arts, Helsinki. Memberships: Painter's Union, Finland Helsinki Artists' Association.

Excerpt of Artist's press release : "Heli Tuhkanen had the desire to realize her 3-dimensional ideas in ceramics. Unwilling to use so much energy in a traditional oven, she created oven-free techniques using a composition of mineral substances reinforced with cellulose fibers. Her materials are mainly recycled.

This material has appearance of ceramics, but the works are light and resilient, without the fragility typical to ceramics.

She makes sculptures of mainly female motives ranging from full natural scale to miniatures. The gallery's annual motive 'Angel' is met with modern child angels so familiar to all of us. She deals with them with compassion and dignity".
